Mexico is soon to have a new train route with only one thing in mind: tourists.
This trip is set to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the arrival of Hernan Cortes to the coastline of Veracruz. The new touristic train will start running between that city-port and Mexico City. The so called “Cortes Route” will follow the journey the Spanish conquistador did by foot to arrive to Tenochtitlan, capital of the Aztec Empire.
First journey is expected to start until 2019 and will go through the following states: Puebla, Morelos, Tlaxcala, Mexico, Veracruz and the capital.
A very old train journey
This train route (Mexico City-Veracruz) is also the oldest in the country inaugurated in 1873. The journey will bring tourists to some of the two thousand haciendas located in the surroundings and some other attractions as well.
The “Cortes Route” is an initiative of the National Tourism Business Council (CNET). It will require an investment of about US$100 million.
