If you thought bike tours are easy-going tours to feel the vibe of big cities, then you should consider also segway. I just had a wonderful tour in Mexico City riding a Segway and I just loved it very fun and almost effortless. In fact, a great option with visiting Mexico City (or CDMX as it is now known for brevity in the country).
First of all, you need to know that segways are two wheeled, self-balancing, battery-powered electric vehicle. In simpler words, an electric skateboard with a handlebar.
How you use it?
You can command the segway to go forward or backwards by shifting your weight on the platform. To turn around you have to gently move the handlebar to the left or right, and if you want to stop you have to make a squat. It kind of seems difficult, but it’s actually very easy to use after a little training. Morever, it doesn’t generate pollution.
CDMX is an incredible place to go around on segway because the city has been well adapted for the pedestrian. You can choose between 3 different tours around the city but I’m going to talk about one in particular: Polanco-Chapultepec.
The tour starts in a great coffe shop in Polanco. There you will have some training on how tu use the Segway. After that, you will start the journey in Polanco, which is one of the most famous and exclusive neighborhoods in CDMX.
You will be kind of nervous at first, but 15 min later the tour starts you would like to increase the speed and it would be really funny. During your tour you’ll go up and down bridges until you arrive to Chapultepec, which is the Central Park of Mexico City. It is HUGE, so you will only be able to visit a portion of it where you can enjoy the views of the lake. The tour includes a local meal that I’m sure you will love. Have you eaten tortas? It’s a piece of bread with avocado, tomato, onion, cheese and meat in different presentations. It is very simple and delicious.
It is for sure one of the best and exciting activities you must do if you are visiting CDMX.
